Ascent to Yukta
It was the 5th of August, a Saturday, when we decided to do this magnificent route and climb the mountain Yuktas above the village of Archanes.
The great feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ the Savior, which in the Christian religion pushes many believers to climb high altitudes in order to be close to their God, contributed to our decision. So we started with a lot of appetite and with the conviction that with a little good will we will make it! We decided not to follow the normal road but the path that climbs the mountain from the foothills vertically.

The route is magnificent but at the same time difficult. Some parts of the trail are steep and others are quite slippery. With enough care even a beginner can climb it!
The result from the top rewarded us! from the 811 meters altitude, you have a wonderful panoramic view of the city of Heraklion, from the north!
History says that on this mountain during the Minoan period there was a sacred peak with a holy temple. Later this sacred peak succeeded the Christian worship, that is why the temple built on the southern hill of the mountain is dedicated to the Master Christ.
After this two-hour climb and the wonderful view, a nice villager put us in the back of his truck and drove us down to the village.
